The Kensington Runestone was strategically placed to be a crossroad to important locations.

The maps of c. 1362 were accurate. Here is an example of a Portolan Map that is in the Library of Congress(note; west is up- look for boot of Italy). Were the travelers at the KRS working off an existing map that they had or were they trying to create their own using the KRS site as a crossroad(or compass rose)?
